Tottenham Hotspur Club History
The Home that groomed Tottenham Hotspur
With a motto of ‘To Dare is to Do’ the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club was formed in 1882 and the logo of cockerel standing on a football symbolized this motto.
Tottenham Marshes was the initial grooming ground for Tottenham Hotspur which is where the club first played for the inital 6 years. It witnessed the first match between Hotspur and its rival opponent Royal Arsenal but could not see it to the end because of poor light.
The ever increasing crowd forced the Spurs to shift to Northumberland Park but this didn’t last more than a year as the crowds swelled up immensely. The fan following was like none other.
They soon switched over to a much bigger stadium caked the White Hart lane. These ground was once a nursery that belonged to Charringtons a well to do brewing company. In 1905 the club managed to buy it and became the permanent owner of the grounds.
The initial capacity was 11,000 and today with expansion and renovation they can now accommodate 36,310 supporters.
